New Beginnings

Zach got a really neat present from Grandma and Papa Corbett for his birthday...
2 caterpillars that change into Monarch butterflies. Over the last few weeks we've watched those caterpillars eat their milkweed leaves and crawl around, then finally about 10 days ago they made their chrysalis' after they hung upside-down for about a day and formed their "J" shape. Yesterday morning we noticed a change in one of them...it was all black. At first we feared the worst, but just a few hours later, a beautiful Monarch butterfly was hanging on the red mesh beside what was left of it's chrysalis. Zach remembered from school that it's wings needed to dry before it could fly. So a couple hours later, the kids released the butterfly. Now today the second chrysalis is black, but you can faintly see the wings of the butterfly inside. Tomorrow morning the butterfly will probably emerge. What an awesome reminder of new life in Christ...He takes our old self ,changes us, and gives us new life just like a beautiful butterfly.

In this picture you can see the shell of the chrysalis, the green chrysalis of the other caterpillar and the beautiful Monarch butterfly.

The butterfly emerged while we were at church, but wasn't ready to fly yet. After lunch he was flapping his wings. We took the mesh off the jar and it only took a few moments before he tried out those pretty wings. Away he flew!!!
